Doing what you want to do. That’s success. I feel sorry for people who run around trying to find success when they have it in their own backyards and they don’t know how to take care of it. Silly bastards.” ~Trader Vic
Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the San Fransico Bay in their own backyard, but we do. The Bay can be a monster in summer with winds up to 30 knots, tidal current slicing through at 6 knots trying to push you out the Gate and on to Japan, and vast areas of treacherous shallows…all in all, ideal conditions for sailboat racing! The Nordic Folkboat is a little Viking ship, designed in the 1940’s in Scandinavia, with a 25-foot lap-strake hull.
Many have crossed the Atlantic and their study construction makes them ideal for the blustering conditions on the San Francisco Bay. These are the boats that we campaign…40 races in three months! So for the next few months strategic and tactical planning at Saga will have a decided nautical flavor. But that does not mean that our competitors in business should rest easy…if they hear a hail of “Starboard!”…It may already be too late.
